Serious changes with endplate irregularities are called Schmorl's Nodes. Because of weakness of the endplate or altered mechanics, discs have actually herniated into the vertebral bodies. When this occurs at multiple levels, it is sometimes called juvenile discovenic disease or Scheuermann's.
