  Annular Tear

In all respects, this MRI is normal with the exception of the horizontal white line denoting an annular tear. This is the tear of the outer disc ligament. This may cause either a chemical irritation (due to a spill of interdiscal contents) or compression (by direct pressure on the nerve).
